Prospero: Robotic Farmer

Overview with extended planting and annotations (5:04)

Just planting (0:43)

Prospero: single member of a robotic swarm

Prospero is controlled with a Parallax Propeller chip mounted on a Schmart Board (Schmartboard 2010 MCU contest forum.schmartboard.com/index.php … 871.0.html). Its body uses Lynxmotions’ AH3-R and it can walk autonomously in any direction while avoiding objects without turning it’s body. An under body sensor array allows the robot to know if a seed has been planted in the area at the optimal spacing and depth. The robot can then dig a hole, plant a seed in the hole, cover the seed with soil, and apply any pre-emergence fertilizers and/or herbicides along with the marking agent. Prospero can then talk to other robots in the immediate proximity that it needs help planting in that area or that this area has been planted and to move on via IR (currently represented with a green and red LED ). The more seeds it plants, the more the “green” LED lights up, the more it draws other robots nearby (+2). The more it detects planted seeds, the more it repulses other robots with the “red” LED (-1)

quite nice to see a robot with a purpose. i actually saw your video on youtube a few days before this thread, nice work.

Nice! 8)

Hey guys thanks! I submitted it on “Hack-A-Day” yesterday and it’s on right now at:

Hi,

I second innerbreed! It’s cool to see a the hex used as a platform to carry lots of tools to do a certain task. I like the look of the big gas-can on top. Good job!

I’ll post the compleat write-up that I did for the Schmart Board contest and code. I originally wrote the walking code for my hexapod while it was controlled with a BD2sx so space was a major issue. I don’t really know if you would say it uses IK. I’m curious what you would call it (besides a mess  )

@innerbreed I’ve been following some of your stuff on Trossens’ too. This is the first project that I’ve ever posted there, and it’s had a bunch of hits, but no comments. I don’t know if I’ve broken some kind of taboo?

@RobotDude have you heard about the “Unofficial Propeller Expo Central” that’s going to be held at Ottaw IL? I think it’s only about 2hrs away from you. A lot of people were asking me where I bought my parts from last year.

It looks fun, but I just don’t have time to do tradeshows or expos. My time is better served here doing stuff. lol

and here you must stay!

I understand, but I suppose that’s for the best for all of us. Anyhow, here are the files for Prospero and it’s walking program (called “PropHexAware”).

edit: it won’t allow for “.spin” files so I’ll just post the pdf from the contest. It has the code in the back.

Ok so the .pdf is too big. The file is here:
forums.trossenrobotics.com/showthread.php?t=4669
or here:
forums.parallax.com/showthread.p … t-your-own
Sorry about that :frowning:

You can ZIP. the file and attach it.

The PDF was still 3.01 mb

Then just post the link of the PDF:

forums.trossenrobotics.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=2458&d=1297742204

There it is…

Perfect! Thanks!

I have added .spin files to the allowed attachments list, so you will now be able to upload your file if you’d still like to do that.

Thanks Snailkeeper! I’ll do that after work tonight.

Spin code for the stand alone walking portion of Prospero’s code.

I don’t know why I never noticed this thread… The robotic farmer is WAY too COOL  I think I speak for most of us that our robots are nothing more than a curiosity/research, but yours does real work! Awesome way to use SES hexapods…

Thanks for the compliment, I’m glad you liked it. I like your signature, I have a similar list of “sponsors.”. Have fun!
