Hey guys, So i have been designing a robot and have come to working out the gear ratio for the motor i am using.
The motor i am looking to use is the Propdrive v2 5060 380KV Brushless. The setup will be something like in the picture with either a belt or chain (whichever is easier/better). I have added the width of the track and the Radius of the wheel
I have tried scowering the internet to try and figure out how to work this out myself but to be honest it goes completely over my head… any ideas about what sort of ratio, how many teeth in each gear, what batteries would be best, etc?
I should probably note the robot is for a small project i am working on. It will weigh anywhere from about 12 to 20kg. It will not be used as a fighting robot or for any sort of competition so top speed and all that is not particularly important.
Nice drawing of your track system
The motor you choose have a 6mm output shaft and for the amount of torque we would suggest metal chain. What’s the gear ratio needed for your chain ?
One of our manufacturer have aluminum sprocket and hubs that can fit on that.
I have no idea what the gear ratio is… the gears that are on there are more for display to show what setup I’m intending on using.
I’m pretty new to brushless (and brushed for that matter) and as such haven’t worked out how to do gear ratios so my motor wont blow up…
Honestly I as hoping someone would be able to recommend gear sizes and yea possibly someone to get them haha
Edit : Its the two bronze looking gears that i need to figure out -
One would usually find what’s needed for it’s robot then choose a motor which is close to your needs.
This motor will have a 380rpm per volt so the maximum speed will be related to the battery used in your setup.
Well i think a 6s lipo and 1:5 gear ratio would be playing it pretty safe. 15 teeth on the drive and 75 on the driven
I guess i won’t know for definite until i get it up and running.
Brilliant. Thank you for the help.
I think i will try and see if i can locate a 12t drive sprocket wth the same pitch but the 48t one should be perfect.
I’ve messaged to try and locate a suitable chain so will wait and see and hope for the best!
