Product suggestion - Plate with standard hole pattern

A plate with multiple instances of the standard servo bracket mounting hole pattern would be quite useful for building anything where you need to mount multiple items in a single plane.

As it is the ASB-15 is the closest suitable part.

Including the hole pattern for the SSC-32 would let this part serve as the structural backbone for an entire robot assembly.

Thanks!

Hi Brian!

Yeah, I have thought about this too. I even cut some samples from lexan. I am still working on what material and overal sizes would be useful. I am also working on “U” channel parts with the hole pattern repeated along the length. I’m looking at 2", 3", 6", 12", 13", and 16" lengths, but the prices are not cheap. I’m still looking for a provider that can do this for less. The last parts to be added to the SES are motor mounts for the spur gear motors on our site. This and the other parts will really expand the possibilities of the SES. Thanks for the post.

A “U” channel would be great for my purposes.

If the plates or channels are too big it’s not a big problem. Cutting them to size is still quite a bit easier than having to drill a zillion holes.

As to sizes, depending on what it does to the prices of course, a U channel five or six patterns long and one about a foot long might be good starting points.

A plate big enough for two SSC-32s would be a great ready-made platform/backbone for a robot and a sheet large enough to chop up for multiple uses (8x12?) would be tempting.

Thanks!

Hi Jim,
When will the SES Motor Mounts be ready?

Thanks
MJL

I think he has some available already.

I think that Jim’s referring to something like an ASB-04 for motors.

Something that could surround the motor and be attached to in multiple areas.

I have received the sample channel parts.

They are .09" thick material. I am going to get some samples made with .06" material to see if they flex much. Not sure which way we are going on this yet, but we will make a decision soon. Always open for feedback…

Sweetness!!

Were you going to test for flexing with these in use as biped hips?

I would love to see some flat plates for the SES added! They could be made in fun geometric shapes like rectangles, hexagons, octagons (not so subtle hint) and maybe others.

We could actually build some real chassis components with such as these.

Why not draw them up yourself in QCad, and have them laser-cut out of (say) acryllic at Pololu.com?

If you’re really feeling generous, you could even post the files someplace for all to share and enjoy.

Best,
— Joe

Yes, indeed, I believe I could do this now that I have some great 3D CAD software.

I had not actually considered doing manufacturing of stuff myself, until now, but I am sure I could do something like this at some point. The only thing that ever really holds me back is lack of money.

I have already designed a custom body (two decks with expansion decks) for my Octapod project. It has, of course, got SES compatible hole patterns.

I originaly built this just messing with the software from EmachineShop.com, and it got me to thinking of how this piece could possibley be used for say a hip piece for a biped Just a thought.

The piece is not exact and was not measured.

I figured you could mount a servo at the top of it to use the LPA-01 with, and then the rest you have a few options with.

I since have adjusted this to look more exact.

Just an idea

Here are a couple of pictures of the custom Octapod body I have designed. I have already test fit everything and it mates perfectly to all the Lynxmotion 3D models.

Here is how it looks with all the legs attached:

That is exactly what I would do.

Here i edited the bracket so that it looks as though it fits a servo better.
