Problems with the Sabertooth 2x32

Hi guys, I’m having some trouble with the Sabertooth 2x32 . I have a 90A 12v lead acid battery and when i connect that up with the sabertooth the error light goes on and the green light blinks twice (according to the manual that means it has two cells? i dunno). When i try to drive a motor with it it wont budge or give any signal or current through. However when i switch to a power supply of 10v 8A it works fine and i can drive both motors.

What could be the problem here? I take it the Sabertooth is getting too much current?

Hello @kner,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

Yes, exactly as you said, the driver is getting too much current than what it can handle.

Sabertooth Dual 2x32A 6V-24V Regenerative Motor Driver is a dual channel motor driver capable of supplying 32 amps to two motors, with peak currents up to 64 amps per motor.

The max. voltage is 64A.

Let us know if you have any further questions.

Sincerely,

Thank you Ebram for the quick answer!

I thought so yeah, is there a way to limit the current from the battery to get it below 64 amps?

Hello @kner,

Thank you for your reply.

To limit the current for usage, you can use a resistor or special current limiting circuits.

Unfortunately, we don’t have such circuits in our store but you can find them online.

What I still don’t understand however is why the sabertooth is drawing the full 90AH. When I connect a different board to it that is rated for less amps it works fine. Why does the sabertooth make a problem of the 90ah?

Hello @kner,

Thank you for your reply.

You can contact the manufacturer directly to ask them about this.

They would have a better explanation for you.
