Problem with solar engine 1381

Hello everybody.
Foremost sorry for my bad english (i am a belgian boy).
I built a solar engine: model 1381.

My problem is that the pager motor (7mm) don’t rotate but if i replace it with a DEL she blink.

If i used motor+DEL the motor rotate…
what’s the problem?
thank you.
PS:In Europe it’s impossible to find the 1381 so i used TC54.

When you used the motor and

When you used the motor and the LED, how did you place the LED?

Maybe the LED acts as a

Maybe the LED acts as a flyback diode. A flyback diode is always required, when switching inductive loads like motors.

Here is a schematic of a solar engine using a flyback diode:

Hello,

My LED + Motor in serial connection.

The 1381 has a CMOS output while the TC54 has a “open drain” output. Do you think the problem can come fron that?

Well, I’m not sure what’s

Well, I’m not sure what’s happening with the LED/motor combo, but the open drain output means that the TC54 can’t go ‘high’ to turn on the NPN transistor. (edit: although, why does the LED blink? -scratches head-)

You can get a TC54 with a complementary output, like in the 1381, but maybe do an experiment and try a 100k, or maybe even a 1Meg, resistor from the base of the NPN to the +ve of the circuit. Hopefully it might act as a ‘pull-up’ to get the solar engine firing.

Worth a try, anyway.
