Prgramming issue

Hey guys… ran into some funkyness last night and figured I would ask here since I really couldnt find anything on google.

I started changing Xans code to work with my head and neck configuration. I added some stuff and changed some stuff. Plugged it all into my old pc that I do the programming with since it has a built in hardware serial port (not USB to Serial), programmed it and it was fine. Tested the code and a couple of the servos for the neck and head responded!! YAY!!! So I went and changed some of the init values for the default pose of the neck. I then tried to program it into the basic atom pro BBII and it wont program correctly now!

One of two things will happen

  1. Programs the whole way, then errors out on the verify part with some seemingly random numbers and letters
  2. programs all the way, apparently verifys to 99% and then just closes the window, no beeps nothing, and the program doesnt seem to run.

I didnt have another 9V battery laying around, so I used the output from my 6V switching BEC to power the BBII thinking the 9V was dead and I get the same result.
Is this simply a power issue? Should I go get another 9V? does the BBII have issues programming with less than 9V?

All I can offer is to go back to the last known good program and try programming it again. If it works then it’s a program edit issue. If it does not, then it’s a programming process and or hardware issue.

yeah that was the first thing I tried… went back to the one that I edited that worked. That wouldnt program so I went back to the default Xans code and that didnt go either.

I guess next it to try the test file located on this site and try that… then try a new 9V also

i have had this before. i gave up on finding out why this was happening and just replaced the atom chip. but saying that i deleted the code after that and never used it again.

try to program the code with just this.

end

or

clear

this should completely “clear” the atom and if it programs then you can try and install your code again. never know it might work. just something else for you to try.

im quite curious to see these seemingly random numbers and letters. do any of the lights stay on after it has either done

you might find that if its getting to about 99% that its the battery. once you start to get to the end of the “upload cycle” that more power is needed. kinda like it needs extra power to “fire up the atom” but with a low battery it just kills it.

I’ll try programming with those simple codes… and if I get more errors I will post them here… wont get to try again till the weekend

Ok, so this is weird… I programmed just “clear” and it did the same thing as #2, which was go thru the whole programming and verification, but then no beep when it finished programming… no beep when I turned on the BBII or anything.

I grabbed the robot and moved it closer to the computer and it made a beep sound! Turned it off and on, beep beep and it works!
Maybe it was a short somewhere? Everything seems to be fine now

glad its working now. seems like you might have had a bad connection.
