Praying Mantis Robot Project!

Happy to help! ^____^

Hm…really? Well your youngest son then looks like me?! :open_mouth:
That avatar is my Mii and is about 95% accurate.

The 5% is the hair, mine’s isn’t that spiky but the general shape is there.

Well, maybe it’s just me, a dad. Doesn’t have his little beard.

Alan KM6VV

Hm…maybe not so much.
The nose, eyes and eyebrows are the pretty much the same and maybe the hair length also (although I think mine is slightly longer ^____^).
I had some time this morning so I made him a Mii!

Cute, but no beard! I’ll have to dig up a more recent photo!

Hey there everyone! ^____^

I have fully completed the construction of Infinity Mantis - The Praying Mantis Robot and all that’s left is the programming. This however, will have to be left until I come back from my trip abroad (in a months time; just to recap ^___^) so in the mean time, I will start the designs for my Dragon Robot Project!

So I’m afraid to say that you’ll see no more of Infinity Mantis for a month (NOOOOOOO!) but you’ll have Moonlight Dragon to look forward too (I’ll be enclosing more information about my Dragon project when I start my next topic thingy ) - in the meantime; I’ll leave you with some photos of Infinity Mantis. ENJOY! ^___^

Edit: Sorry guys, I just realised that I uploaded the same photo twice. :unamused:

That’s really creative!

Great to see it finished!

Alan KM6VV

Thanks!
It took a little longer than I hoped to finish it off but at least it’s done now - hopefully it’ll be awesome when it’s up and running! ^____^

Hi everyone!
Sorry for not posting for ages but I haven’t been feeling well recently and now I’m pretty busy just sorting out things for University, so I’m afraid that I won’t be making and updates on anything for a little while longer. :frowning:

Hi everyone!
So I had this awesome dream a few days ago and it gave me this pretty cool idea which I thought that I’d try out since I’m free for the next few days - I’ve gotten all the Uni stuff sorted out so now it’s just moving on Sunday next week. ^___^

Anyway, onto the main part - I have a question for the guys with bipeds; how much does a biped scout or a complete humanoid robot weigh? Custom made or Lynxmotion products; it doesn’t really matter. I just want to get a rough idea for the value.
Thanks!

Hey everyone! ^___^

So, I hinted my idea in the last post and you’ve probably already guessed what it is but I’ll explain it anyway - just for a bit of fun, I’m going to transmutate the quadruped/hexapod Mantis Robot (quad/hex depending on if you consider the arms as legs too ^___^) into a Biped Mantis hybrid. The idea looks cool in my head and my rough sketches show it looking pretty decent but I’m aware there are some problems that need sorting out. Unfortunately, I am only using the brackets that I have at the moment but I’ll try to make some new ones so that I can progress.

Anyway, here are some photos - Enjoy!

Hi there everyone! ^___^

I’ve finished cutting out the main parts required for the Infinity Mantis Hybrid and I started assembling it this morning and so far, it’s looking pretty cool. The height of the legs alone, once fully extended, is 30cm so I estimate the total height of the robot to be approximately 40cm ± 2cm.

I’m not going to start programming it just yet as I want to experiment with different layouts, etc. so I’ll be leaving that for the time being. ^___^

Anyway, here are some photos - Enjoy!

Looks great!

But you’re gonna have to program it someday!

Alan KM6VV

Thanks!
Hahaha! Yes, I know - the (sort of) dreaded day is approaching soon. I can’t run forever!

Yes well done. Looks very nice so far.
What’s the weight comparison between lynxmotion brackets verses yours?
What servos are installed?

You have certainly set yourself a challenge regarding programming.

Well unfortunately, I don’t have a precise digital scale so I couldn’t measure them exactly but using other methods, my brackets are only slightly lighter than Lynxmotion’s. I’d say about 20-25% lighter (probably less). ^___^

I’ll be using HS-645MG’s - I just re-used them from the ‘old’ Mantis.

Yes, I agree, it will be quite a challenge but I guess that’s what building robots is all about so I should be happy to take it. ^___^

Hi everyone!

So last night I couldn’t really sleep so I decided to work on the Hybrid some more and well, it turned out to be pretty worthwhile!
I can happily say that the hybrid has been completed and a few modifications have been made to the legs. The biped now stands at 41cm with the legs being 7cm shorter now and reaching 23cm. (^0^)/

I am still pondering on whether or not I should make the tail a ‘permanent’ part of the robot’s design. Since it’s a hybrid, I guess it would be cool to have a fair few distinguishing features just to make it look like a Praying Mantis/Humanoid robot but I’m also thinking of adding a sword across the area where the tail would be to make it into some kind of Samurai Humanoid/Mantis creature.

Also, since it’s a biped now - it would be cool entering a ROBO-ONE competition at some point although that is definitely a long way off. ^___^

Anyway, here are some photos - ENJOY!

Hi everyone!

So it’s been quite a while since the last post so I apologise for that, however, I have some things to report. ^___^

Fresher’s Week finished yesterday and my lectures are going to start on Monday and after checking my timetable, I’ll be quite busy during the weekdays so progress will be slowed down (by how much; I’m not sure yet ^___^).
I will, however, keep you guys updated and I’ll post things that I think will be interesting for you guys to look at whenever I can.

So in the meantime, that’ll be A.K signing out.

Wow! Another one of those miraculous days in which I make two informative posts - YAY! ^___^

Anyway, I decided to start the programming properly for Infinity Mantis but for the time being, I’ll start with basic “fun” things like dancing, press-ups, etc. which actually leads me to this video - I will start off with making Infinity Mantis do some press-ups.

Anyway, here’s the video - Enjoy!
cough Since uploading videos is very rare for me cough ^___^
Hahaha! No, I’m joking, I’ll try to post some of the actions whenever I can.

looking good. you look like your having fun there.

So seeing that you are putting your robot through a fitness routine… will he be running in the next video?
Keep up the good work.
