When I hooked up a 9v battery to the board, all of the leds came on and it clicked. I wired it into the VL terminal, which is what I thought you were supposed to do. Is it because I didn’t have some sort of on/off switch between the 9v battery and the board?
Yes if you connect power to the board, it will run. So I normally use some form of on/off switch between the battery or Wall Wart and the board.

When I powered it it started clicking loudly. I thought that was abnormal?
bap is not inserted correctly.
What? No. The Basic Atom Pro 28 chip comes pre-programmed with a program to flash the LEDs and click the speaker. Just put 6-9VDC to the board’s VL (like you’ve done), and you’ll be fine. The LEDs coming on is an indication that the chip is NOT installed incorrectly.
So is it inserted correctly or not? You said that it’s pre programmed to flah the LEDs and click the speaker, but then you said the LEDs coming on is a signal that it’s not inserted correctly.
Actually, I said “not installed incorrectly”… although I probably should’ve said “installed correctly” to avoid this exact situation. Sorry about that.
