Hi!
I work on hexapod with arduino mega and I use 18 TowerPro mg 995servo Motors. I wanna know can I use 2 Li-ion batteries 3,6V 2400mAh in series (7,2V) to powering 18 servos? If one servo need 1A under load, does that mean that battery will be charged for 8 minutes (2400/18000*h=8min)? Can I do it that way? Thank you so much. Best regards.
Hi,
Correct, theoretically if the in-series Li-Ion Batteries are fully charged, it will take about 8 minutes to discharge the batteries while powering 18 x servos (that consumes 1A each under load).
However, you should also verify your batteries maximum discharge current (discharge rate). Typical 18650 Li-Ion Batteries have 2C discharge rate which means that the maximum discharge current would be 2400 x 2 = 4800A which won’t be sufficient to power your 18 servos in case that all servos are under load and consuming 1Amp each. It would be probably better for your application to use a LiPo Battery with higher discharge rate.
