Powerful servo which one?

Hi,
I am looking forward to make a crane style robot arm with a lifting power to be round about 500 pounds. Which servo with a continuous rotation should I use in the shoulder joint to lift the object. There will be no wrist joint just a simple hook to lift the objects. If there is a more strong servo available that can lift more weight also let me know.

The arm length of the crane will be approx. 4 feet

Also recommend the servo controller preferably SSC-32 controller.

If it is not possible just recommend the most strongest servo controllable with the SSC-32 controller and how much lifting power with a 4 feet long arm.

You’re kidding, right? First off, go hydraulics, with a hydraulics controller of some sort. SSC-32 and hobby servos aren’t up to the task.

500lbs, that is not probable in the usual servo world. Ypo might use linear actuators or a hydraulic setup. You might get some ideas from the below links.

I found this servo with a Gearbox. It has a torque of 4,495 ounce-inch (4495 [oz·in] ounce-force inch = 323.6750149 [kg·cm] kilogram-force centimeter) at 6.0V if I attach 4 servos with sync motion will it be possible.

Well, worst case case of 500lb being held horozontally at a distance of 4ft may look somethng like below (it is early so check the math).

500lb x 16oz/lb x 4ft x 12in/ft = 384,000 ounce-inches
384,000 ounce-inches / 4 servos = 96,000 ounce-inches per servo

Don’t forget to multiply * 4 for the length of the lever arm. And also add a 50% (or more) to overcome the friction losses and a safety factor.

500 LBS AT FOUR FEET!!!
check this out … and these guys know what there doing… this has a max lift of 154 lbs…your gonna need some HUGE servo motors…but hey! the shipping is free.
