Hey! I am looking to detect potholes on the road and I am thinking of using LIDAR for it. It shall be used in an inclined position. mounted on a servo to scan the road ahead.
I was suggested in a blog that LIDAR is not my best bet because of its slow working and very less Field Of Vision. This will result in blindspots.
So can you please suggest me any other viable option instead of LIDAR for scanning the road ahead.
Thank You.
A scanning laser rangefinder should work nicely to create a 2D map:

Note that you will have some custom software to create, and also need a computer.
The laser scanner’s sample software can provide a 2D “image” of the distance to objects. What you would need to do is record and save this data, but also keep in mind that the truck is moving, so you would need data from an IMU and likely a GPS sensor. We cannot exactly guide you in creating this software unfortunately as it is beyond the support we can provide.
