Dear robot enthusiastics,
I have a couple of questions about the YDLIDAR G4 Laserscanner. I want to use them for my hexapod roboter to map and localize the environment.
Is it possible to use the G4 lidar in an outdoor area? How is the range of the lidar sensor for black and white objects in the environment? Did any user recognize differences in the detection of black and white objects?
Thank you very much
and have a nice day.
Chris
Hello @robotchris and welcome to the forum
According to the user manual the ideal working environment for the G4 is indoor, indoor lighting will not affect the G4 work. However, avoid using a strong light source (such as a high-power laser) to directly illuminate the G4’s vision system. If you need to use it outdoors, please avoid that the G4’s vision system is directly facing the sun. This may cause permanent damage to the vision system’s sensor chip, thus invalidating the distance measurement.
For the other questions I suggest checking the user reviews on the product page because I haven’t tested the scanner myself.
I hope that information can help you out
Good day!
