Hi everyone!
I’m posting here because I communicate to the support center for my problem and they told me to have the forum approval that my chip was defective before they could do anything.
So let’s begin,
I bought this adapter : robotshop.ca/sfe-db9-rs232-shifter.html
And the Pololu : robotshop.ca/pololu-serial-adapter.html
And i followed those tutorials : msfn.org/board/topic/128807-the-solution-for-seagate-720011-hdds/ and this one mapleleafmountain.com/seagatebrick.html
So I use the first adapter the Sparkfun, everything was fine and working. I plugged the 5V red cable from a molex adapter on my computer to the VCC and plugged the ground black cable to the ground. I was able to get echo response from the chip. But my problem was that I was not able to communicate to my HDD via the TX and RX because this particulary chip needed 3.3V to do so. So I bought the Pololu because it was written in the forums that the ship could communicate to the HDD with 5V.
So I plugged the Pololu adapter in my setup, start my computer and the chip start to fume so I unplugged everything. I think the chip was defective because the Pololu adapter is rated to handle 5V like my Sparkfun chip that is still working after I worked with it for a couple of days.
So what I need to do to get a replacement chip?
Thanks
