Pololu Programmer not working

Hello, my name is Ostin and I have the Pololu USB AVR programmer V2 to program an atmega328PB chip. I have atmel studio 7 and the Pololu configuration utility working correctly however when I try to read my devise signature an error appears on the atmel studio screen saying

“Unable to enter programming mode. Verify device selection, interface settings, target power, security bit, and connections to the target device.”

and there is another one saying

“Reading device ID…Failed!”

in the Pololu configuration utility it shows that

"Error: Initial SPI command failed.

The SPI command for entering programming mode was sent, but the expected response from the target was not received. Make sure that the ISP frequency is less than one sixth of the target’s clock frequency."

I already tried changing all the ISP frequency to all the possible values but still doesn’t work, the hardware connections are fine and I am really frustrated about this situation.

Hi,

That is the key sentence. It basically says the target is not responding. Therefore, there is a strong possibility that the connection between the USB AVR programmer and the AVR is not good (not powered properly, error in how I/O lines are connected, something else loading/draining an I/O line, etc.).

Could you post pictures of your setup making sure to clearly show all components (AVR, USB programmer, all wires, power cables, etc.). Please do not hesitate to add annotations where required.
