Pixy Cam

Hi,

We are a Lego Robotics Team and purchased a Pixy Cams for our EV3 and are planning on using it for this year’s competition.

The challenge for this year’s Competition is Animal Allies, and we chose to look into the problem of Turtles getting injured by vehicular traffic.

Our idea is to either install the camera on turtle crossing hotspots in Ontario so it would set off ‘Turtle Crossing’ blinking signs to slow down traffic, OR make it mandatory to install them in all cars that are sold in Canada so that it would give the driver a warning ahead of time if a turtle on the road is detected.

Here are our queations:

How do the cameras fare in extreme temperatures?
How far is the range (would there be time to stop or avoid Turtle once the sensor went off if it is installed in cars)?
Would it be easy enough to have it sensor Turtles or would it get confused with lot’s of other same coloured/shaped items along the road.

Thank you for your time,

Hi,

]From the datasheet LPC4300 (Processor of the Pixy) : Temperature range: –40 to +85 ºC/:m]
*]You can find the maximum detection distance of the Pixy here

/*:m]
]Detecting properly the turtles will depend on how far the Pixy Camera is installed and the speed of the car (in case the pixy is installed in the car). It still needs to be tested to confirm the results./:m]Regards,
