Pinion Gears and other parts

Hi, not sure if this is the right place to post this question - I want to buy fairly rugged but lightweight parts such as:

  1. Pinion Gears and a track that it can slide in

  2. The Pinion Gears need to drive a normal circular gear (about 4 or 5 inches in diameter)

  3. Said circular gears need to be mounted on some axle

  4. And lastly, as you can imagine the track and axle need to be mounted to some type of framework

Thank you in advance.

Our selection of gears is not very extensive, and a pinion gear needs to be able to press fit to a specific diameter shaft. Do you know the diameter of the motor’s shaft?
If you give us a better understanding of the project, perhaps we can offer additional ideas / suggestions.

Thanks for the input - I sincerely appreciate that you took a moment to comment - this is mainly just a fun new hobby where I want to try to see if I can do a component of my own funky design, and then let my kids touch and play with it - tangible stuff they can feel, you know?

And this is the full inventory or list of parts that I think I would need for my first design:

(2x) Rack Gears (2 feet long apiece)
(2x) Rack tracks (that the Rack Gears can easily slide back and forth in)
(2x) 5 inch diameter Pinion gears
(2x) 7 inch diameter Pinion gears
(2x) 3/4 inch axles (or 1/2 inch, but not preferred)

Some type of Framing System that the axles and Rack Tracks can mount to.

Hope all of that makes sense. I’m in the I.T. field (not mechanical), so I’m not sure if I’m expressing myself well in this area with the correct nomenclature, ugh. lol

Thanks again.

Vex Robotics sounds perfect: robotshop.com/en/vex-parts.html
They have all the gears you need, the frame components, motors etc.
The catch is that VEX is compatible with VEX and nothing else.

Ah bummer, I’d like to not be so proprietary, but at least I have a starting point. Thanks again!
