My first robot was a photovore, which was reasonably successful, and I was quite pleased with it. It soon, however got converted to an object avoidance robot, using a Sharp GP2D12. I used the same chassis for this, as the basics were there to make it easy to convert. I will probably continue to use this chassis for various testing of sensors and programming, for the forseeable future.
However, it occurred to me, that the plain white plastic looks boring, and as someone mentioned recently in a post, maybe we should be thinking of "tarting up" our bots. Flashing lights and bright colours was mentioned, and I have to say, when I was a boy, all the 'robot' toys had to have flashing lights, or they weren't robots.
So, as I am in the process of, again, modifying my bot using an idea of fritsl's, it is going to get a complete strip-down, and a makeover over the next few days, (flashing lights and bright paintwork).
Anyway, I'm sure, with the Christmas season approaching, we will see lots of fun and imaginative things appearing here!
Incidentally, my first robot I named Moth, but that is now inapplicable, so from now on, my 'chassis/bot' will be called RDP-01.
UPDATE 13/11/2010 Well, it got pimped! https://www.robotshop.com/letsmakerobots/node/23421
