Phantom 4 vs. Inspire

Hey I was wondering what you guys thought about each drone, and which one is better for me. I’m a film major and i need a drone to shoot moving car scenes, etc. Which one is better for that kind of thing? Any advice would be great.

These guys love the phantom 4. I’m hearing best reviews about that one. what do you think? Thanks for having me on the forums.

Hi George,

I’ve been looking a lot at DJI and now GoPro lately and can definitely feel for your decision making process… it’s a tough one. Your needs as a film student will be different from my own, but from what I gather one of the key features differentiating the two will be the greater control of the Inspire series of drones. If you’re at that stage where you’ll have at least one more person working with you to operate the rig, then you may be better off with the Inspire so that one can fly and the other can shoot.

…of course, cost is a big factor too! Let us know how you’re leaning in your decision.

Hey Nick,

After doing some more research, I think you’re right. I’m just gonna spend the money and get the Inspire. I’m trying to submit quality projects and if it means spending a little bit more for top quality, its worth it. Appreciate your input tons. Cheers!

Hey George,

Only just replying as I somehow missed the notification? …anyway… congrats on the decision. Very cool choice :stuck_out_tongue:

I have to ask …what made you ask this question on a robotics forum… what are your filming plans? Do we get to see some footage!? I’d love to have an excuse to mount/connect a drone to my ROVer project (links below)… don’t see how, but it would be wicked to have a “landing pad” on top somehow. Some of the new drones have the ability to return to home in a very precise fashion. I’m sure the Inspire is among the best.

Cheers,

Nick.

The Inspire is a great choice, especially the new one that just came out. But you can get good shots with something much cheaper as well. Here’s a good list. Or you can build one yourself.

As you can unfortunately see, GoPro has had to recall their drone, which looked very promising. We do hope they will release it again. DJI has had many years to refine their design, so the quality and reliability is there.

There is no rational reason why a hobby pilot would prefer “Inspire 1” over a P4
except you just want a “Inspire 1”.

Since 99% of P4 and Inspire1 users are not professional videographists or film producers I dont see a reason for buying an Inspire. It is kind of like you want an expensive iPhone instead an affordable (and much better) android phone.

I would even rather go for a Walkera Tali H500 (is mentioned here on the list of most expensive drones) then for an Inspire 1. But that is just my opinion.
