Parts suggestion to build a platform robot

Hello, what parts would you recommend to build a platform robot below:

  • Payload of 20-30 pounds
  • 5-15 mph
  • 1 hour run time
  • used outdoors in level grass terrain
  • low profile
    -be able to follow a wire or
    -be able to follow several simple programmed routes (ex: go right 15 feet then turn 90 degrees and go straight for 30 feet) (ex: go right 3 feet then turn 45 degrees and go straight for 30 feet)

I suggest that you take a look at this tool:


It will give you the specifications for the motor you need.

Here are the basic parts you will need for this kind of project:

  • Motors with encoders (encoders are required to make any precise movements.
  • Frame
  • Motor Controller
  • Micro-controller (I suggest an arduino or a raspberry pi)
  • Some kind of probes which will complete a circuit when they touch the wire.
  • GPS module? If you want to guide your robot outside, a GPS might be easier to use than a wire.
