Parts recommendation for building remotely directed action camera

Hi!

I’ve looked through the overwhelming number of posts regarding building objects on the forum.
I’d like to have an updated recommendation/advice for remotely controlling the position of an action camera.
What’s your favorite equipment if you had no budget?

I am trying to move a small camera, about 175 gm. I need to pan (yaw) and tilt (pitch) but roll wouldn’t be necessary. If there was about a $2 dollar difference, I would spend $2 to add roll.
I’d prefer quiet while moving - Camera mic picks up a lot when in contact.
Jitter would be bad. Please, no jitter.
Is it possible to hold a still position with minimal or no battery drain?
I’d like to be price conservative - is it possible to buy the mount for under $20?

Thank you so much in advance for your help!

Hey Cyblade,

I would recommend this cheap kit here for the pan/tilt: https://www.robotshop.com/en/jsumo-robopan-micro-pan-tilt.html
Note that it uses 2X SG90 Servo motor, see specifications here: http://akizukidenshi.com/download/ds/towerpro/SG90.pdf
Stall torque 1.8kg seems more than enough for your camera

If you want to remote control the whole setup, I recommend you use IR signal depending on what is the range you want to achieve.

This kit would be perfect to control easily 2 Servo Motors: https://www.robotshop.com/en/dfrobot-ir-remote-kit-arduino.html

To easily learn how to operate the IR remote and receiver, you may follow this tutorial here: http://www.circuitbasics.com/arduino-ir-remote-receiver-tutorial/

If you need more range to control the pan/tilt, I would recommend going for a RC controller.

Hope this helped.

Hello Pjutras,
Thanks for the info and suggestions. Very helpful. I am looking into the servo kit you suggested.
