P60 Gearbox w/ RS540 DC motor Instructions Help

I got my P60 gearboxes and RS540 motors today and I am really excited to put them on my bot and start rolling around. But there wasn’t any documentation that came along with the product and I don’t know what type of grease to grease the gearboxes with or how to connect the motor to the gearbox (I found way, just not sure if its the right (and safe) way).

Thanks.

I found multi-purpose “AGS White Lithium Grease”. Is this safe to use? I have little experience in this sort of thing. I looked up the different types of greases and the numbers weren’t much different.

Here’s the numbers: | |
Mobil XHP 222 Special 2 | 280 | 280
“Ball-bearing lithium” 2 | 220-265 | 180-199
White Lithium Grease 2 | 265-295 | 182

Hi jkleland,

Basically what you see is what you get. You need to

  1. remove the rear plate from the gearbox (don’t loose all the gears)
  2. push the spur gear onto the DC motor’s shaft
  3. screw the the motor to the gearbox’s rear plate (ensure the oritentation is correct)
  4. remove each stage of the gears carefully and place them back the same way they were removed. Grease the gears.
  5. re-connect the rear plate which is now mounted w/ motor
  6. clean up and test the motor
  7. add / remove grease as needed.

The manufacturer recommends Mobil XHP 222 Special grease; however, most lithium based ball bearing grease can be used (from McMaster-Carr for example).

Hope this helps,

It shouldn’t be a problem. The main purpose ofthe grease is to lubricate the gears (and also reduce the noise and dissipate heat).

Sincerely,
