Overheating?

Hi have a Roomba 500 series. We have it scheduled to run Mon. - Fri. at 10:30 am. Recently it started to never make it back to the recharger. When we would find it and hit the “clean” button it would do it’s “oh oh” and then beep nine times. I’ve discovered, by watching it that it begins to go kind of in a circle or attempts to go forward but backs up a bit. Eventually it just quits. We keep the brushes, wheels, cliff sensors and the robot in general clean and maintained. To go on…if I wait for a while and use the remote control I can make it go forward and steer it (Chasing the cat is great fun by the way). Then I can hit the “clean” button and it will run for a while but not long. IF the robot has not been running for a long time and is what I consider “cold” then it will run for about 20 minutes. If, when it quits, I wait for about a half hour and start it with the remote, it will run about five minutes. Interestingly, if I try to start it with the “clean” button it will only do the “oh oh” and do it’s nine beeps. Then I start it with the remote and away it goes. My theory is the motor is overheating for some reason and when it gets too hot it quits or seizes. After it cools it goes again.

Hi Yuki,

Welcome to the RobotShop forum.

If your Roomba is turning in circles, there is probably a problem with one or a few sensors. Have you tried cleaning your robot with compressed air? We suggest to do so, especially under the robots bumper. You may also tap the robots front bumper to dislodge any debris that could be stuck under the bumper.

If your robot is still under warranty we suggest that you contact the manufacturer or the store where it was purchased from in order to get an exchange under warranty.

If your robot is no longer under warranty, you may consider our repair service or parts.

Regards,
