I spotted this 9 channel R/C Radio set on eBay, and am looking for the same unit at a better price now.
Would this be a decent R/C rig for experimentation?

Not sure. Does it have the right frequency for ground use?
Assuming you are not planning on just simply plugging all of your servos into the receiver, but instead wish for the signals to be used by the microcontroller to then have the controller decide what the robot should actually do… Assuming this is true, than you will need to handle all of the pulses that are generated by the controller. Can try multiple pulsin commands, can try my assembly language function to read them all in at once, … Can use a second processor to do this for you…

I just know it’s a 2.4 GHz setup.
That’s what I would do, of course. I’d try to use it as a selectable controller for remote or autonomous operation.
Yes, indeed. I’ve never tinkered with R/C control for robotics, so I figure it would be interesting to work with, and I found one for a much better price (under $15.00) that I’ve bid on. Even if it isn’t workable for R/C robot control, it looks like it has some nice controls on it, and the case may be big enough to slip my own micro and and XBee into.
