Off Road Tires

The biggest tires I’m familiar with are the 40 size RC monster truck tires. They have a 6" diameter and come with foam inserts:

It would be a lot easier just to buy 40 size wheels as well…

those look like monsters, and thx for the tip, but I want almost everything on this next bot to be custom made by myself so I get top points for everything  So I think I’ll get these and insert my own kinda rims 8)

Good luck, use these dimensions:

Diameter: 101mm (4-1/8")
Inner Diameter: 93mm (3-3/4")
Width: 85mm (3-3/8")

Here is an image of the new hubs, with some rims and tires they fit. They are very strong and will make a great improvement to the rovers. The samples have been aproved and are in production. Give me two more weeks and they will be in stock!

They fit everything I’ve thrown at them, so I see no reason to believe they won’t fit the RPM rims.

cool.

so those are for 12mm or 14mm?

and they fit 4mm or 6mm shafts?

LMAO, I didnt say that :stuck_out_tongue:

lol, see where the hex part of the hub inserts into the hex part of the rim: thats what breaks on me all the time, so this time Im making aluminum rims

I’d say something at this point, but I’m pretty sure that everyone can already tell from the picture that they are indeed quite shiny.

They are for the 12mm hex and 6mm motor shaft! 8)

Jim,

Do you plan to include the new tires and rims with future Rover sales or will you use up existing stocks of the original tires and rims first?

I am planning on purchasing a 4WD3 in the near future and would like the kit to come with the new tires and rims.

Comments?

As always, good job.

I was refering to Linuxguy’s question if the hubs would fit the RPM rims…

ahhhhhhh

The Proline MOAB XL tire dimensions are 7.31"OD x 3.9"ID x 3.43"W Weight: 221g. I would love to put some of these on a regular rover, but they are expensive ($33.00/pair retail) and the matching wheels are another $46.00/pair at retail.

WOW,
i didn’t know a topic about wheels can get up to 100 replys  :astonished:

Wouldnt matter much to be becuase Im making the rims myself from aluminum. Honestly though, are they any better than the LM offroad tires?? From what I have experienced the LM off road tires are too squishy, and the plastic rims break :stuck_out_tongue:

Maybe you are trying to make a robot larger or heavier than we had in mind when we chose the tires and rims we did. :smiling_imp: The tires and wheels are more than adequate for a 5 lb rover… :unamused:

Absolutely agree, Im taking hobby parts to the limits :stuck_out_tongue:

Squishy? Those are standard 2.2" mashers, which is a popular, well-made off road tire. They give a little to conform to the terrain and increase traction. There are different densities of foam available that can give a softer or firmer ride if needed.

How exactly did you break the rims on a rover? Please describe this “experience”. Myself and others have bashed plastic RC rims for years doing jumps, hitting trees, etc without ever breaking a rim. I’m talking high speeds, 20-40 mph. They are virtually unbreakable short of smashing them with a hammer.

:unamused:

Bassically, when driving my rover around the key hole where the hub meets broke off and now does not mate correctly to my hub even after layers of superglue. This happened from just cruising around. My bots only about 11lbs, so no problems there.

To fix this issue, Im making an aluminum rim with a hub welded to the center. Im also using higher demsity foam for the insert but havent found a good supplier cheap enough and who sells the stuff I need :astonished:

these are preliminary plans. Im mostly likely going to use my masher tires with this setup, becuase I too dont think there is much better out there for my applications. 8)

One way or another I’ll break anything :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you tried looking at www.smallparts.com ? They have a variety of materials.
