Object tracking and capturing robo

I am a student from India doing my engineering in Electronics and Communication.

I wanted to my final year project in Robotics, a Robot that can track an object usually a coloured one , and it should move nearto it and capture the object using some ARM like arrangement.

After it is needed to return it to a place specified -I am planning of using the MATLAB tools to control it, to find and pickup objects on its own (Autonomous).

But Please can you guys also provide me some help in developing it ??? Give your own ideas too, it would be really helpful…

Roborealm has software that can track colored objects and there are also tools in the software that can have the robot backup when it gets to close to an object. It used to be free but now I belive it cost a few bucks.
