No LIDAR data returned

Hello:

I’ve moved a Garmin LIDAR V3 onto a new quadcopter frame and now not getting any data from it.

I use it for ranging and have a 470ohm resistor in the cable for continuous operation. It has worked flawlessly since purchase. It connects to my OSD via PWM.

So far, I’ve swapped cables, tested cable continuity, checked the resistor(458ohms), device gets 4.75VDC.

Any further troubleshooting tips?

Well, 4.75 V DC is not 5.0 V DC (nominal voltage). If your power source is already near the lower minimum limit during steady state, it is quite possible it causes issues during power up.
The device needs a bit more current during initialization (i.e.: at power up) than it does while running (up to 500 mA).
If not enough current is provided (i.e.: the voltage will most likely drop momentarily), the device may not initialize properly and therefore not function afterwards as expected.

Since you mention having it working properly before, a few things come to mind:

  1. Did you change anything in your electrical setup? If so, please try your previous setup and see if you now receive data again as before.
  2. What are you using to power the device? (battery? voltage regulator? ESC? etc.)
  3. Maybe add some pictures of your setup so we can see more details.

Hello:

I applied 5.2V and now it works.

Thanks for the tip,

Ron

Hi Ron!

Glad to hear that resolved your issue.
Good luck with the project!

Sincerely,
