Newbie: Servo motor compatibility

Hi all. I’m a total newbie to robotics and I have a question I’d like to ask.

I noticed this in the specs for the SSC-32 servo controller.

Does this mean the controller won’t work with other brands of servos? I was thinking of linking it up with JR RBS5802 and RBS582 servos.

It will work with any hobby servo that uses PWM. Now if you want to use the SES brackets, thats another story.

Ah, I see. Thanks for the clarification. I was confused by that line.

Brackets won’t be a problem since I’ll be making my own.

The SSC-32 will work with any hobby servo. There is one that has the power pins reversed, can’t remember the brand. :frowning: But it’s easy to fix it to work. We listed Hitec and Futaba because they are the most popular.

Also: I have encountered a few instances where servos of some brands rotate in the opposite direction than those of other brands, for a given signal. There doesn’t seem to be a standard of any sort, or maybe there is, and I was lucky enough to have found servos that didn’t adhere to it.

The Hitec servos all have CW rotation for longer pulse values. At least that’s standard.

I’ve found that the Hobbico CS-61 (white servo control horns) have opposite rotation from the TowerHobbies TS-53 (black servo control horns). For simplicity, probably best to stick with a single brand of servo if possible. Also note that one brand may have one more/less spline on the servo control horn shaft than the other, making the control horns incompatable.

Wow this is all useful info about the servos not fitting with the SES brackets.
