I have been elected to build a project.
I have the basic mechanics drawn up and know what I need to do,
but not how to do it.
I will need to move a lightweight camera 12’ in two directions. X,Y
and also to be able to rotate that camera 180 degrees. by remote control like used in hobby cars, airplanes etc.
I thought of just buying an R/C Monster Truck and taking it apart for the parts.
But they use servos that rotate, and I need linear.
Is there a kit, or retrofit for an R/C set up to replace the rotating with linear?
I’m new at this. My last venture into R/C was with rubber band powered servos back in the late 60s.
I need as simple and cheap as possible please for this project.
I know this will be kindergarten for most of you but to me a huge deal.
Thanks in advance Y’all
Don
Never be afraid to ask.
Can you draw the setup so we have a good idea of what you are looking for?
There are linear actuators which can be controlled using R/C servo signals, but to get the stroke you need, they are not cheap: robotshop.com/en/servocity-actuators.html
Another approach is to consider something like this using Microrax, continuous rotation servos and pulleys:

If this is of interest and you’d like some more links, we’d be happy to provide them.
If you have another way you envision the system, images and more description would help.
This doesn’t make much sense without you actually explaining what your project is. Sounds like it is some type of camera dolly system.
