i really want to build my first track vehicle but i’m afraid the i will buy thing i don’t need., I’m very new to this but i do have a 5 channel radio controller a friend gave me. I know i need a motor controller, motor’s, battery but after that i’m lost and on top of that witch one works best together. If I get a Sabertooth 2X5 motor controller what will I need for there? I would love any help I could get to walk me throw this.
If you are looking to make a medium sized tracked robot, the best tracks are: lynxmotion.com/c-94-tracks.aspx
This page has all the components needed to make the tracks except for the motors themselves: lynxmotion.com/c-50-motors-wheels.aspx
and also the support panels / frame to hold it all in place (we create ours out of lexan).
The choice of motor controller depends on which motor you select. A Sabertooth 2x5 is good for most GHM series, and can be configured for direct R/C input from a standard radio controller (which is likely what you have).
on the Sabertooth does that have your speed control and servo all in one or is that something that needs to be added? I was wonting to build the base for now and then add to it later.
One more thing how much weight can you put on the gear head motor 7.2 50.1 175rpm? I would like to build a unit that can carry a few things that i might add later.
The number of motors you connect to the Sabertooth depends on how much current is used by each. For example, you can have one large motor connected to each channel, or who which are half the power, or four which are 1/4 the power etc.
