New Tires and Hex Hubs! YAY!

Well Im not sure if this was announced or not on the forums here, but while searching around this evening on the lynxmotion website I realised the new Hex Hubs and Hex Rims were in stock! :open_mouth: Its been a long while comming and now here they are! Glistening beautifully in the light as a strong, lightweight and cooler looking substitute to the older hubs.

AND NOW INTRODUCING THE NEW LYNXMOTION HEX RIMS AND HUBS I WISH I HAD! :imp:

TADA! Way to go Jim, this is going to be a huge improvement to everyone’s rovers and the new 4WD models. Glad to see you got them in! 8)

Hi Jim,

Where are the new tires and rims for the 4WD1?

Sadly they are not going to materialize. The testing on the tires I chose proved they are too wide, and have too much traction to be usefull on this small of a chassis. So that’s why we discontinued the 4WD1 completely. Note, we still have stock and will fill orders, but the website is pretty clear they are going away. The 4WD2 and 3 are to be replaced with the new aluminum versions. The 4WD1 is so small that it just didn’t make sense to keep trying to make a go of improving it as the larger rovers are being done. There just isn’t any 3.5" diameter tire that will fit the new wider rims, and there just isn’t any narrower rims that can connect to the 12mm hex hub. Believe me I anguished over this for a long time before finally giving in and discontinuing the 4WD1. :frowning:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for the update. Much appreciated.

After having worked with the 4WD1, I have to agree with you that it is very small in relation to other 4WD designs.

I mainly use my 4WD1 as a test bed on fairly flat surfaces because, even with the higher ground clearance option, it does not do well in uncut grass.

If you want a beta tester for the 6WD Rover, I will be gald to pony up the cash to do so.

I ordered in a bunch of these tires, inserts, and rims, but after testing them on a 4WD1 sized chassis, found them to have too much traction for such a little bot. However I am selling them separately for parts for bots. They come in pairs with ultra-firm inserts and the new style rims that fit the 12mm hex hub. I tested the compression of these tires, and found they can easily handle 12lbs with very little compression. 8) So a 4WD bot could handle 48lbs total weight in theory. This simply means I didn’t actually test a bot with this much weight on it.

What’s the issue?

Those Monsters are nice 8)

Turning of course! It actually bounces on tile or low pile carpet when trying to turn. Not pretty… Now those tires on a larger bot wouldn’t have these issues. I may end up putting them on a larger bot some time. :stuck_out_tongue:

Do I sense design ideas for a 4WD4 or 4WD5? :stuck_out_tongue:

That kinda sucks …
