New Rover Won't Rove

Have a new rover fully assembled. but…

I get the dreaded “stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00” on two different computers I tried to use (yes I’m setting the COM port and board properly). I even tried changing the COM as someone suggested as well as the baudrate. When I go to upload, I see the RX LED flash very faintly three times and that’s all. I installed hyperterminal and I can see the RX LED flash whenever I send something but never a TX and the characters are not return as I am led to believe should happen. I have successfully programmed other uControllers on the same computer/USB port so I don’t think it’s the computer.

I wonder, however, if the problem is more basic. While researching things to try I read someone mention something about a “default program” that goes forward for 1s and backward for 1s on poweron. Is the rover supposed to arrive pre-loaded with this program? I get no such behavior. Am using the 4xAA (removed the jumper), the power LED and the six blue LEDs come on with the switch (or connection to USB), but that’s all. The led’s by the motors don’t blink. nothing. Tried reset. new batteries. Running out of ideas…

Suggestions would be most welcome. Thanks!

I did this and went from 6 (upload) to 7 (request RMA). Step 6 is where I am seeing the “stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00” message.

OK, will do. I was hoping to avoid that.

Thanks! Looks like the board/boot-loader was the problem after-all. New board worked first time.

Will do. I purchased the kit to teach my 11 year old how to code. I’m also very interested to see what he does with it!

There is a troubleshooting procedure in the DFRobotShop Rover manual. Take a look and see what step you arrive at. it will instruct you as to what to do. Note that the board you have is based on the Duemilanove, NOT the Uno.

Ok - if you followed all of those steps, please contact us via the Support Center and indicate your invoice number. We apologize for any inconvenience. If you reach step 7, it’s likely because the board did not come with the correct bootloader.

Post some videos - we’d love to see what you do with it.
