New Guy Arm Project

Hi, I am serving in Afghanistan with and have quite a bit of time on my hands. I’m going to order the AL5D kit but am wondering what else I’ll need. We have a hard time getting things here as they have to go through an APO address which adds a couple of weeks to the delivery time. It’s important that I order all the parts at the same time to ensure my project isn’t held up waiting on something silly. Will I need to order separate batteries, materials to mount the kit on? Do I need a PS2 controller - I’d like to configure the microcontroller with a timer vise operating the arm manually. I am totally new to this and look forward to sharing a journal for newbies as I go forward. Thanks in advance

You have two main choices: Arduino or FlowBotics Studio. If you want to start playing with Arduino, we suggest the version with the BotBoarduino, and purchase the PS2 controller kit (including level shifter and PS2 mount):

If you want to try FlowBotics Studio, consider:

You would need a USB XBox 360 controller or USB PS2 controller:

Additionally, you might want to add a wrist rotate upgrade (one of three choices):

Last, you will need some 9V batteries, or a 9V power supply and cable.

Hope this helps,
