Hello my name is Reg and I build RC scale construction equipment. I just purchased some new more powerfull gear motors for the track drives on a 50lb, 1/10 scale excavator(RB Sct-181 15rpm 500oz in) to replace my current motors(RB Cyt-34 17rpm 277oz in) The new motors are now installed in the excavator and stall out easier than the old ones. This is a new product to the Robot shop so I am wondering if anyone else has used these and what they thought of them. I am not impressed with them at all given that they are rated at nearly twice the torque(@ 12volts) and are twice the price. This is the first product that I have purchased from the Robotshop that I have not been pleased with. Is it possible that the company that makes them is providing false information on the specs?
Thanks Reg
PS I wasn’t sure where to put this as it was my first post.
Oh OK thanks for the explaination, I wish that was more clear in their description though. I had thought that both motors were rated at stall torque. I guess I will send them back then. Too bad because the new motors are visibley better quality and I waited over a month to get them. How do I go about retuning them? I had to solder on the wires, are they still returnable? I hope so!
RB-Cyt-43 is rated at 277 oz-in continuous operation, whereas RB-Sct-181 is rated at 500oz-in stall (locked shaft). A rough estimate of a motor’s max continuous torque is to take the stall and divide it by 1/3 to 1/4. Therefore RB-Sct-181 should only be operated at closer to 125oz-in continuously, which is roughly half that of RB-Cyt-43. The difference in price likely comes from: different materials and quality assurance practices, different margins etc. We have moved the post from Robot Toys to Actuators.
Not sure, especially because they have been used to the point where they stall and wires have been soldered. For returns / exchanges, contact us via the support center -> Exchanges/ Returns dept.
