New gear box and motor needed for Litter Robot 2

We were having problems with our motor in a litter robot that has worked for 6 years and decided to replace it. The problem is we don’t know which gear box and motor to choose from your online store to replace ours with. Would you let me know what parts we need to purchase to complete our repair? We have the knowledge and skills to complete the job, but the parts we took out don’t have any markings to tell us what we need to buy to replace them with. Thanks!

The biggest problem I believe is with the lack of lubrication in the gearbox. There is excessive wear to the gearbox in the location of the second spur gear off the main motor drive. This is causing the gear to become out of alignment with the third gear causing ‘skipping or jumping’ of the gears when the motor goes into reverse. This might also cause excessive strain on the motor causing the motor to fail with other units. [my motor is functioning correctly, so this pure conjecture, but may relate to others who say that they had a motor fail.]https://www.robotshop.com/forum/https://www.flickr.com/photos/obbyboy1969/15869327018/

This is our third litter robot in the last 8 years. (We love it for what it does) But, it is by no means going to outlive the nine lives of your cat. Even the replacement motor/gearbox has a warranty of only 6 months. I feel bad for the people that are not so mechanically inclined to fix their litter robots. I was hoping it was just a worn gear and was planning on replacing it for just a few bucks. but with damage to the gearbox case that will not happen. I have to order a whole new gearbox unit. At least they now sell the whole gearbox and motor as a unit. Hopefully the littler robot 3 will have a beefier motor and gearbox (one that will truly last the lifespan of your cat).

This little gearbox and motor is the muscles of the Litter Robot and needs an overhaul/upgrade to match the greatness of what this product does.

[for some reason it will not let me post a photo of my gearbox :frowning: ] here is a link to the photo of my gearbox with the problems highlighted.

Hi all,

I ran into the same issue with a dry gearbox causing the gears to jam. The unit would turn on, motor engage, but no movement of the large plastic gear. With some pressure the gear could turn a degree before cutting out, but insufficient to rotate the bubble.

Removed the gearbox from the unit, popped open the casing, and greased it with some molybdenum disulfide grease. Works great again.

The Litter-Robot motor is unfortunately not a product that we sell online. Although, it is available. Please contact us through our online support center and we will gladly send you a quote for the replacement motor.

We unfortunately do not have an exploded view of the Litter-Robot motor. We do not recommend taking apart the gearbox and motor since it is sold as a complete unit. Please contact us through our online support center and we will gladly send you a quote for the replacement motor.

The Litter-Robot gearbox and motor is now available for sale on the RobotShop website.

Do you have exploded view of the motor and gear for litter robot 2 ?

after almost 3 years the drum don’t turn anymore even if I heard the motor :frowning:
