Hi there,
I’m new to this so am looking for advice. I hope to make a mixer for the workshop. I have excellent woodworking skills, reasonable mechanical ability and a very little electrical knowledge. Unfortunately, I have NO electronics knowledge or understanding (though I can see I’m about to learn fast!).
The mixer is intended to take fine dry powder and the relevant solvent, combining the two in large quantity, starting at 0 RPM to avoid a harmful dust cloud, but to increase to (a rough guess until I try it) say 300-400RPM maximum. As the components mix, the result is a high viscosity liquid causing some resistance. Therefore I think I need torque around 450-650 oz/inch. The motor would be left running for (I guess) an hour or so, as the start has to be very slow for some time.
So, to sum up, I need to use the workshop supply of 220-240v AC. I believe a 12v DC motor runs better at low speeds, so I want a 12v motor, speed controller (including the actual control dial), and a AC-DC converter.
Could someone please list me the actual components I should use, and if I dare ask, could they offer any directions or description for any complex work I need to undertake?
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
Regards,
Richard
Hi Richard,
About the conversion, we have some power supplies that can take 220VAC and output 12V.
For the speed controller, what will you need to control it ? Something automated (will require you to code something) or only a potentiometer (analog input) to set it manually ?
On the motor side, what kid of attachement will you need between the motor and the stir attachment ?
Best regards,
Hi Eric,
Thank you taking the time to help me - it’s very much appreciated.
TBH, I didn’t think anyone would get back to me so I took a chance and bought a motor speed controller to convert 220v AC, output DC 10-90V CW CCW 60W w . I hope this will do the job. Wish I’d waited now.
As for the motor, to be honest, I’m least worried about the form of attachment. I can probably manage the physical side (mechanical). It’s finding a motor that gives the speed range and torque I was struggling with in 12v. Having bought the motor controller I have, it opens the range available. Can you suggest a product which would suit my needs?
Again, thank you for your time.
Regards,
Richard
Richard,
Can you add a link to the controller you got ?
It could be a “DC Drive” which require special industrial motors.

Hi Eric,
Hopefully, this will get you to it. ebay.co.uk/itm/191680530534

Hi Richard,
If you want to drive a 12VDC motor this might not be the best since it can range from 10VDC to 90VDC.
You might be able to find another motor which can work with this voltage but we do not carry that type of motor.

Thank you for letting me know Eric.
Sorry we can’t do any business this time. I’m quite sure there will be other occasions.
Richard
Hi Richard,
No problem, you can still post pictures and text about your project here
All the best,
