New Bot on the rise

And here is teh new guy…hes a tough little guy wating to be born yet. soon as the system lets me post a pic i will do so…lol

Hes done quite well in the simulations i’ve runn in Max. found out his arms were to small that way saving some trubble.

got a good walk path going in there to, now if i can just right a script to get max to export atom code…:stuck_out_tongue:

here are the pic that i before noted

http://i70.photobucket.com/albums/i90/MaxumX/rocb1b.jpg

most of it is made from the SES but the center hub, feet, arm extenders and hands are custom to work better with the added weight of the torso

Stats:
Wieght: unknown (~2 lb guesstimated)
Hieght: unknown (15-16in gesstimated)
leg DOF: 6
Arm DOF: 5
head DOF: 2
total DOF : 24
Control: auto
Power: one 9vdc and one 7.2vdc Li-poly
Contruction: Ano aluminum frame, billet aluminum horns, Derilin Plastic and soft PVC foot pads.

this rigging of the parts was made in 3dsMax. i had remodel all the SES parts to get them to work right from the .3ds files on the site they had way to many polygons (20k-50k+ each mine have 400-500 each). but that did not take to much time. i also had to model my own servos and horns. i diden’t do screws or anything like that. but i did build up a IK for it and doing a bit of research there to see how much i can do with IK and FK on the vertual model.

Im going for full atonomy on this one, like all of my other bots. I just like sitting back and watching to do it thing with no input from me. Bipedal i know is by far more complex then what my priviose experiments have been. but i look forward to the weeks of headaces and frustration…lol

should prove to be a fun program to right. i’ve only done wheeld robots and motor driven leged robots in the past this jump to a biped sould be one heck of a challenge for me. i hope i can relly on you all for help if i get stumped. witch will prolly happen im not that keen on Atom programing but if it like basic or C i should be okay for the most part.

in the mean time do you see any modifaction that should be made to the design of this monster? (more pics comming soon witht the wireing and BB2 and SSC-32 in place…soon as i ge the models done for them)

Nice start to your project. When are you building it?

i’ve made the arm spacers, hip, and other custom parts for it already. pritty much just waiting for this shipment to get here and i will start the more complex building stages. (witch is still pending shipment)

the movement system works well at least in simulations.

(pic show the in the sim balanceing on one foot, has only wire not counted for and correct wieghts of hands. )

Got him to ballance in the sim. but the sim don’t take the right wieghts into account yet. the hand parts are much heavyer in the sime then they will be in the real constuction.

Are you going to paint it red? 8)

Red ones go faster.

im thinking about it. right now he’s planed to be black. He’s only red in the sim for rendering contrast. the black ano in the sim (with current lighting) is vary hard to see what it were.but the more i play with it in the sim. the more im getting to like the red…:stuck_out_tongue:

i did this render for pure fun, but i think it looks good in clear plastic…any chance of some SES clear/opaque plastic parts :stuck_out_tongue: be glad to help with the mold designs!

He would be ever so slightly cooler with a waist rotate servo.

lol, get ready to break out your checkbook and go for the SLA parts first… $800-$1500 a pop is real cheap compared to the tooling costs of molds. :unamused:

It does look cool, but there’s just no way we can cover the cost of designing and making the molds required to make the existing SES parts. The amount would be staggering. I can make any of the Lexan parts from clear or tinted Lexan. They are more popular in black though.

A-bot: I though about puttig a wast rotate in there. but i’ve been trying to figure ware to put it. i cant mount it in the torso not enough room. And it would get in the way of the hip servos so i can’t put it in the lower half.?? any ideas were to mount it?

EddieB: Stereo Lithography would work for a trial run of them but still to expensive. i would not use Molds if i were to truly make them for production. All you need to do it cut them out of flat lexan using water jet or lazer cutting. Then use a heated bending brake to form them into shape.

Robot Dude: i can understand that i have to have a “ring” mold built and that is going to be expensive. wish i had the tools to build it my self would cut my cost my facters of thousonds. but sadly all i can do is design them and have some one else cut the die.

the “ring” : I run a shop Hardened Anvil Metal Works (H.A.M.) our primay output is jump rings and chainmaille equipment. i’m working on offering plasic chainmaille, should go over good for the movie buisnesses. In other costum and reinactment cyrcles they may be seen as a taboo…lol

  1. Cool. I’m not the only member into both bots and chainmail. I usually just use galvanized steel wire and wrap it around a rod to make my rings. Been awhile since I’ve made a whole shirt but the last one (below) incoporated a cross in the middle made of copper rings (double rings).

Of course you’re not!

I did a shirt and coif - nothing special, just 14-gauge galvanized - but I’m working on a new one in stainless (I hate that zinc oxide smell that gets on everything it touches). Not authorized for heavy fighting yet, but I throw sharp things, and am looking to get into combat archery, once I find a new job that lets me attend practice sessions.

Seamus the Tinker, House Colderwild, Barony of Highland Foorde, Kingdom of Atlantia (currently stuck in Stierbach for job purposes, but working on getting back home).

Ummm…we now return you to your regularly scheduled robotics thread.

We interupt todays news for this unkown error.

Nice!! Good to know information. and the burk looks good too.

here is a few of mine. all Spring Stainless 16g 5/16 ID

Now back to the Program…lol…

Chainmail might not be so irrelevant. Given a bot with brute servos, one can dress their bot up with chain mail and do some crazy combat with them!

Dare I say, a biped based on either the upcoming HSI-100 or Robotis RX-64 with chainmail, shield and a sword/axe/club? :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

BTW, those are beautiful pieces of work, Chainmails are a work of art!

now that might be a idea, us some aluminum Maille and some custom servos…lol

Would make a good show but not realy that usefull…ummm

thinking about it
