I'm at all not even close to knowing anything about robotics. So I have no clue where to start or what to do. I know a little about electronics but not enough to help. So if anyone could point me in the right direction that would be awesome. I'm looking to create something that would help our armed forces, since I'm a veteran myself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the site. I hope you will enjoy your stay.
Checkout the really well done tutorial put together for this site. The link is labeled Start Here in the upper left hand corner of your browser. What is great about a kit is that it will have everything you will need and you won’t be stuck on not being able to put it together because you are missing a simple part. It can also be a cheap way to get started. I suggest you start small and simple and build up from there moving to more complex. Take a look around on the site here to get some inspiration; there are some truly amazing creations posted here.
If you don’t like the kit that is recommended, you can also look at our benefactor’s site, robotshop.com. They have an incredible selection of kits that range from thousands to well under a $100. I noticed on some of the kits that they don’t have controllers or motor controllers, so make sure you are getting a complete kit if you go that route. Questions are answered very promptly.
Thanks for your service to our country and for doing your part to help keep us safe and free.

Bill

I have never used one of these, but my understanding is that this is an Arduino controller combined WITH a motor controller on one board. These are sometimes separated out into two boards which I am sure is your confusion.
The Arduino is already connected in so just look for the usb port to connect to on whatever flavor of PC (Linux, Mac or Windows) you are running. Download the Arduino software from arduino.cc if you haven’t already. Control U will compile and attempt to upload to the Arduino on the board.
If you continue to have issues or questions, my suggestion is to create your own questions rather than put it under someone else’s. People won’t know to answer it otherwise.
