New 1/4 scale bracket images

Wow…what a beast! Nice work

It’s been a long time since I posted here but I’ve been reading a lot of the threads trying to catch up on what I’ve missed. I sold my 4WD3 rover and 5-segment polypod last year and haven’t had anything since. I’m ready to get back into it now because I’ve been obsessed with bipeds for years and have some time money to make one finally.

I was about to buy parts to build a Brat with 5675s to start out and eventually add a torso and build a humanoid (not looking to compete in any Robo-one games) but then saw that the large SES brackets were out. Before I go down one path or the other, I was wondering if it would be better to just go with the 1/4 scale servos and large SES components? I am just doing it to learn and show off to friends so the bigger, the better. If it’s only a few bucks more to have a bigger bot, why not?

The only downsides I see to going with the large components is:

Only Digital servo supported is the 5745MG which is $70
The other large servos supported don’t have much higher torque ratings than the standard sizes but will have to lift more
I’m not sure how to do the torso piece without either using standard servos for it or building an SES torso someone or building one from scratch.

Has anyone else thought about doing a large scale biped of any sort?

I made the brackets specifically for arms. But we will find out this summer what else is possible. I can easily envision a Fat BRAT made with them, using the 5745’s of course. We will also assemble and test a larger AH3-R style walker as I’m pretty confident of success. But a 3ft tall humanoid may have to wait for the HSI-100 series of servos first. Now I’m being told they will be available in '09. Sigh…

Thanks. That sounds like a good plan. I am mostly interested in learning to control walking more than anything so I’m not even sure if I need a torso just yet but since I’d need the feet and other parts for a BRAT, I’ll probably just start with a BRAT Jr. and 5645s for now so I can build up. I’m sure any servos and brackets that are replaced with 1/4 scale later on will surely find a home somewhere else on the bot or another bot
