Need to add a buffer wheel to the end of a robot arm that is similar to a UR 5

Hello everyone,

I need to add a 48 v dc motor to the end of a robotic arm similar to a UR5.  I guess is could be pneumatic, but I’d prefer it to be electric.  I am going to be using it to do buffing and polishing.  Any ideas??  Would be nice if it had a chuck?

DC Motor… or perhaps a linear actuator?

Unfortunately RobotShop does not carry many 48V motors (which normally means a fairly large robot). Pneumatics are good, but have their own issues. You might try a DC linear actuator. You can see them used here:

Most linear actuators are 6V or 12V: https://www.robotshop.com/en/actuators.html

Polishing

Polishing with a linear actuator?

Arm or buffer motor

Good question, I think I misread that the motor would need to support the buffer (hence the linear actuator). If it’s the buffer motor itself, no suggestions unfortunately.

It all depends

It all depends on what the poster wants to do with his robot arm and how large it is. Need more input and since the poster didn’t give any it could well be that the robotarm itself doesn’t even exist yet.
