Need help with Linear Actuator

Hi,

I am new here and need to your help on my automation project.
I need a Linear actuator which should move up and down vertically at user defined time interval.
Is there any user programmable linear actuator available at robotshop or please kindly advice me what are the components(including Linear actuator) I need and where I can get them to achieve the purpose.
Thank You very much in advance…

Hi CBenson,

Thank you very much for your quick detailed reply with the information.
Actually this Linear actuator will be used to ON and OFF a laptop PC by pressing down its POWER Button, hence I think no need to be a very strong force.
I checked the linear actuator you mentioned and seems that will be a prefect match for what I am looking.
I will try out the whole system with the components you mentioned, and get back to you if I need any assistance.
Once again thank you very much for the help.

Actuators themselves are not “programmable” (no onboard intelligence), so it would be best to add a microcontroller. With a microcontroller, you can essentially have it do whatever you want, although if you want it to work at set times during the day, you’ll also need a clock.

The choice of linear actuator depends on how much force you need and also the stroke and communication method. The choice of microcontroller depends on the features you want, the programming language and the size. For example a small simple setup might be:

1x L12 6V 50mm 210:1 PLC / RC Miniature Linear Actuator
1x PICAXE-08M Servo Driver Kit
1x PICAXE USB Download Cable
