Hey guys, brand new to the site. I’m trying to find a multiple high end high torque ( RPM is not important ) servo motors that have at least 30lb-f of torque, lightweight as possible and have very accurate encoders (preferable inside the servos) Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry if I’m missing needed information, but I’m a little new to this.
Hi,
With a requirement of 30 lb-ft (~5760 oz-in, ~360 lb-in, ~415 kg-cm, ~40.7 n-m), you will have to look at our largest servomotors. Please note that this type of torque is typically only available in industrial grade actuators, so they will be quite expensive.
The only one we seem to have listed that nearly matches your torque requirement directly is the RB-Rbs-140. As you can see on its product page under Specifications, its maximum torque is rated at 39.131 N-m, which translates to around ~28.86 lb-ft. That being said, it seems the specs have been update by the manufacturer and the motor is now rated for a torque of 44.7 n-m (~32.96 lb-ft) under continuous operation, which should be more than enough. This model also has very precise operation (up-to 502000 steps / rotation). As reference, it uses 24 V DC and up-to 9.3 A during continuous operation (more at peak/start-up), so you’ll need a beefy power supply.
An alternative to this would be to get a smaller/less powerful (and far less expensive) smart servomotor or regular RC servomotor and then add external metal gearing to it to provide the torque you require. That can be especially useful since you do not need speed at all.
Alternatively, you may want to use a linear actuator and change your design to use such an actuator instead. You can easily find very powerful linear actuators at a much lower price. Of course, speed will be far lower but torque will be much higher, with some able to move well over 2000 lbs!
We hope this info helps.
Sincerely,
