I need at roughly 2.5kg/cm torque and 5v. Having less wont kill the project, but will limit it’s strength.
It has to be low profile to reduce the center of mass. (short, not thin, but thin is nice too)
It’s not about weight, so much as center of mass, which i want as close to the horn as possible. Unless of course the weight is so low that the center of mass doesn’t matter.
A micro servo will work, if it meets the torque requirements. A standard servo how ever would be to big.
Must come with servo horns.
Price without shipping <$20.
Don’t be shy about posting if they don’t quite meet the requirements, Depending on shape and strength, i may be able to compromise by adjusting my design.
Edit: any opinions on the Tower Pro MG90/MG90s micro servo? they have 1.8kg/cm torque at 4.8v
they are metal gear 9gram servos. Think that would be a good alternative, to a low profile servo?
Since the only low profile servo i found was the hitec hs-77BB which is a low profile standard servo, which is to heavy and bulky.
Re-Edit: OMG i can’t find MG90’s in stock anywhere, i read the MG90s are ball bearnig and MG90S are sleeve bearing.
I purchased micro servos for the penguin eyes at nitroplanes.com/servos1.html
I think some of these may meet your criteria.

Thanks DJ.
I just ordered one of these.

Using the spring2010 coupon code, + 100 “dino points” it only cost me $8.80, with free shipping.
Far superior to the SG90’s they offer.
With that small size, and that much torque, it should be more than enough for my robot arm.
Still wish i could find a low profile mini servo though.
Could you imagine a low profile Micro servo! Attach robot legs directly to the mounting holes on the BotBoard 2.
Infact. that’s not a half bad idea…
Edit: What are the smallest RC servos available? i might just run with that idea if the price is right.
Would need to be smaller than micro, maybe even smaller than pico servos.
You can get slim wing servos like below.

Ya i was considering one of those types.
Though i’m rebuilding my arm, i’m going with popsicle sticks again.
But i think the MG90 will work. It should have 2.3kg/cm at 5v give or take. And it’s tiny size combined with low weight, it should do just fine. I have an idea of just how to do the arm, execution of the idea may be a bit challenging. Still need a new bluetooth uart adapter (already have one picked out).
