Need help configuring APC 220 rf modules

It appears this RF module pair works out of the box at 9600 baud and they are working to an extent with my program. However, it seems that only one device will transmit despite my alterations in the program. I can establish perfect one-way communication, but i observe sporadic problems with two-way. Everything works fine with the USB Serial cable.

I cant get the config software (RF Magic) to detect the device for some reason and I do not quite understand the directions for manually setting the parameters through Hyperterminal. I need to be able to view and set these parameters to verify matching settings. This information and the config software is provided through the robotshop product listing for these APC220 modules. If anybody has a solution, please help. I am desperate in establishing wireless connection and would rather not have to use Xbee even though i hear its really easy. Im avoiding Xbee primarily due to cost and because of the extra shields and space required.

Let me know if you need more information. By the way, I have one module connected to a UART/TTL converter on my PC, and the other connected to my Arduino with four pin connections(Tx, Rx, GND, and Vcc). Do the other three pins need to connect anywhere?
Thanks.

Hi,

Sounds like you should have everything working. There is always the possibility that one module may be defective (although it seems odd given that you have established one way communication). Send us a ticket via the Support Center (technical support) and include your invoice number and a link to this thread. We’ll see if we can troubleshoot and if not, exchange the module.

Sincerley,
