Neato D7, how to test if battery is non-functioning?

Hi! I could use some help on this.

Neato D7

Default software / latest firmware

Battery is a new Neato-brand replacement, about 10 months old.

Problem: worked fine (after like 30 repairs over the years), but noticed it wasn’t charging on the base and battery slowly faded out.

Steps taken: I tried readjusting it, cleaning the connectors, etc. No joy on getting it to charge. I took a multimeter and had current on the charger, had current all the way to the main circuit board. Lost current at the terminals to the battery. Tested the leads to the battery, got micro voltage, which could be a dead battery or just a drained battery, I cannot tell.

Issues: Does the Neato run only on battery? Does the battery stop itself from charging if it is damaged/asleep/etc.? How can I isolate if it is the battery causing the issue or if it is–somehow–a wiring issue (maybe solder points damaged from vibration/heat/age)?

It seems like the battery just died, but I’m trying to test this before just buying a new battery.

Thanks for any advice!

Hello @Cinders,

Welcome to RobotShop community.

We are sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your Neato machine.

Neato batteries should be changed every 1-2 years depending on usage.

If the neato no longer charges on the base, the battery does not have enough power to charge it.

You can buy a new battery and it is important to take an original Neato battery (OEM) and not a copy from another manufacturer.

Let us know if you need further assistance.

Sincerely,

I appreciate the reply, but I don’t get “the battery does not have enough power to charge it.”?

Also, if I bought a Neato battery 10 months ago and it failed, I should just buy another “official” battery that didn’t even last the minimum 1 year time–which was only used 3 times a week? No thanks.

Feeling sad to know about your experience. Was the replacement battery (which you bought 10 months ago) taken from Robotshop? I am not a Robotshop employee. Just a curious forum member.
