I got a secondhand roomba 500 series yesterday. I noticed that battery had no charge at all. Tried to charge the roomba but gave error code three. I opened roomba to check for unauthorized batteries but found a yellow APS battery with irobot markings. So I took the battery out of it noticed that the battery had leaked a very small amount into battery compartment. Very small amount. I was able to clean it up. No rust or corrosion. Took the battery out of my working 600 series and put it into the roomba 500. It charged overnight and this morning the charging light was solid green. Pushed the clean button and immediately got a red light “bee doh” like tone. No voice. I removed the roomba from the docking station and pushed the button again. Same “bee doh” tone and no voice. I opened up the roomba and removed the battery and the battery was still warm from it charging all night and put it back in my roomba 600 and the roomba 600 is now sweeping my house. So it’s not the battery. What can I do now. Is the 500 series shot??
Hi Gaspiper01, does the Roomba beeps before doing the “uh-oh” tone? If not, then the error is created by the Roomba’s side wheel. It’s either stuck or not touching the ground. If the Roomba is correctly placed on the ground, then there’s a possibility the wheel sensor is defective.
Also, it’s possible the battery leak has damaged the motherboard as well.
