Mounting the Lynxmotion Quadrature Motor Encoder V2

Mounting the Lynxmotion Quadrature Motor Encoder V2 Product Code: RB-Lyn-929 to GHM-16 (w/ rear shaft) RB-Hsi-05 motor

Are there instructions for mounting these encoders. I did go to the USDigital site and found some but they are not exactly the same as the encoder kit you sent to attach to the GHM-16 motor. The main problem is that the Encoder assembly does not have a secure way to mount to the motor.

Steps:
Note: The motor does not have mounting whole for encoder housing. So the next best thing would be something like:

1, Secure small (~1/16 inch) rubber spacer to motor housing by using the double sided tape on the spacer. Note that it does not appear that the small spacer has double sided tape on both sides (this would help).
2. Then place the ~1.8 inch plastic spacer on top of small spacer.
3. The place bottom of encoder housing on 1/8” spacer.
4. You can now push through the 2 small screws through the housing and spacers but they cannot be secured. Just sort of floating there.
5. Now you can add the encoder PC card into the bottom of the housing.
6. Then press the encoder disk onto the shaft of the motor
7. Press the top of the housing onto the the bottom housing.
8. This is all well and good, except encoder is not really secured to motor. Perhaps if there were more double sided tape on spacers??? Now I only simulated these steps….
9. Finally the USdigital mentions centering and spacer tools. Do you have them, are they really needed?

Help!

Hi Ocean55,

You will find the user manual for mounting the encoders on the Lynxmotion website under “Sensors” HERE.

Hi,

Thanks for the reference to the V2 Docs

Now I am not clear on that double sided foam tape. One side has a removable tan colored backing and the other side is RED (does not appear readily removable).

So if I remove the tan backing and attach it to one side of the Lexan spacer than GLUE the other side (you mean the RED side?) to the motor back as illustrated?

My question is how do I glue it and what glue would I use, no GLUE is provided. If you tell me the RED side is removable, than you should say that. Then I would just stick it to the motor backing. Sorry, this may be obvious to everyone but me.

Extract from step 2 below

“2 - Foam Mount
Remove the backing on one side of the 3M double sided foam tape and apply it to the lexan spacer taking care to
match the screw holes. Glue the other side to the motor back as illustrated. It should self-center as shown. Note that you may need to flex the motor’s pins outward slightly”

This foam is a double side tape, remove the red side as well to glue it in place.
