Mounting omni wheels onto smooth shaft motor

Hello all,

My boss ordered these omni wheels (robotshop.com/productinfo.aspx?pc=RB-Nex-08&lang=en-US) to use for a project for which we have ordered specialized motors. The motors have a smooth, 6mm shaft, and one would normally use a set screw hub such as robotshop.com/set-screw-hub-6mm.html for mounting objects onto said motor shaft. However, the omni wheels ordered do not have proper mounting holes.

I have already planned out a kind of interfacing plate which will use the three assembly screw holes as mounting points, but I am unsure what kind of screws are used to hold the omniwheel together. If anyone knows the size of those it would be appreciated if you could reply below. Any other mounting ideas would also be appreciated.

Thanks,
Shortshorts

TL;DR: I need to know what kind of screws are holding the RB-NEX-08 omni wheels together.

Hi Shortshorts,

You shouldn’t need to make an interfacing plate: you should be able to use the extra 1-1/2" screws that came with the wheels to attach the hub directly.

The wheels come with six screws already in place: you need to remove the three larger diameter ones (the ones with 5/32" hex heads) and use the remaining lock nuts to attach the hub by using the 1-1/2" screws instead.

If you’re missing the 1-1/2" screws, please send us a ticket at robotshop.helpserve.com/ so we can send you the missing pieces.

Hope this helps,
