Motorized camera arm

Greetings!

I am building a motorized camera rig, Like a “bullet time” apparatus.

Essentially a ceiling fan.

It will be mounted to the “ceiling” of our rig.

The motor will drive an arm with a 5’ radius

The total weight will be ~75 pounds with arm, cameras and counterweight at its minimum, and ~200 pounds at its max.

We need to turn at a max of 15rpm.

We need variable speed from 0-15 rpm, forward, reverse and stop.

We need a position sensor (encoder?)

It needs to be robust enough for continuous duty for up to 8 hours per session.

It needs to be robust enough to handle ambient temperatures up to 110F.

This rig will be used in a very dusty environment. I am planning to build an enclosure for the motor. If the motor needs it, I will build air filter and fan into the enclosure.

The “arms” for the rig will be 80/20 series 1545 extrusion.

So, I am looking for :

 The right motor

Gear drive or belt drive if needed

 Power supply

 Controller

Wiring ( i would like to be able to plug power supply and control wiring into the enclosure)

 Bushings

 Flanges/ bearings

 Couplings

 Mounting plates

Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Joel P

Hey!

I can certainly help you with your motor selection. However, I will definitely need you to calculate the torque needed by your motor.

After you’ve given me this data, I will try to find you an adequate motor and driver.
