The motor in from my autonomous robot kit is extremely loud, more precisely the gears are really loud and rickety. I’ve taken it apart and put it back together numerous times and am at a loss as to how to fix the noise issue. One side sounds really smooth and is mostly noiseless and the other side which is identical causes a huge racket when it runs. There are currently no wheels on attached I’m trying to figure out the noise issue before I continue building. I’m afraid whatever is causing the noise will cause 1 side to run slower
Can you specify which kit? Perhaps provide a link?

I used a metal washer (don’t know the real name for them) from a different part of the robot to solidify the gears so they don’t shake profusely and it seems to have fixed the issue
Did you use the grease provided with the Tamiya Twin Motor Gearbox? It comes is a small blue tube.
Would WD-40 work in place of that? I no longer have that blue tube unfortunately
Never tried WD-40. The noise is essentially plastic rubbing against plastic. So long as the lubricant / grease you use won’t damage injection-molded ABS plastic you should be fine.
