Hello everyone. I’m a mechanic and I’ve been ask to build something for someone. I’m looking for some help finding a solution to a problem.
Basically I’m looking for a motor that can run up to around 200rpm (between 150-200 would be fine), have a somewhat decent amount of torque and have the ability to control it’s speed via a dial. It will be plugged Into the wall of a UK house.
I’ve seen some stepper motors that look promising and I would be keen to learn arduino coding to control it if necessary but would love to chat to a human about it as Google research is sending me in circles.
If you just need to control the speed of the motor (so position is not important), I would not use stepper motor but a regular brushed DC motor:
It would be good that you know which nominal voltage and torque you need so you can choose your robot. 12V should be OK, but since you want to plug it into wall power outlet, you will need an adapter for this. Also, we don’t know which mechanical function will this motor perform, so we don’t know which torque you need.
To control this brushed DC motor with dial (potentiometer) should be fairly easy. We have a lot of motor drivers for this:
For example, you could use Sabretooth controller in analogue mode:
